LURING AUSTRALIAN BASS
Australian Bass inhabit lower Queenslands coastal belt and extends through to south western Victoria and even Northern Tasmania.
Austalian Bass are enthusiastic lure takers when the barometer is above 1028 or 1030. Everday at early morning and late afternoon the barometric pressure changes, which is why these times are good to catch Bass.
Bass will take a variety of lures from flies, diving crankbaits and surface lures. Surface lures are great for bass especially when you can see them feeding. Cast a surface lure in close to a snag, undercut bank or tree; pause, give the lure a wind for a couple of feet then pause, then retrieve again. This will definitely get a strike.
If fishing for Bass in the middle of the day, concentrate on shady corners and undercut banks. The size of the lure is going to be smaller than ones you would use for Murray Cod or Yellow Belly.
Bass like lures that dive between 2 & 5 metres and best results will be around snags, rocky outcrops or undercut banks. Lure colour will vary, black is a very successful colour, but then brighter colours also work well.
If you have other successful techniques, send an e-mail and they will be added to this page.
