LURING
OFF-SHORE
Off-shore
trolling with skirted lures and large diving minnows is
becoming a popular fishing expedition. You can bag marlin,
yellowfin, kingfish, dolphin fish and wahoo, just to name a
few. Peter Pakula has written a great article - "The
art or trolling skirted lures"
Off shore trolling is like instant fishing. As soon as
the lure is in the water, there is a good chance to get a
solid fish. There is no need to loose a couple of hours
fishing getting bait. A day trolling is very relaxing and
you cover more water and often come home with good results.
Skirted lures with flatter faces seem to be more
successful, as they push more water and pop around. When the
water goes through the resin head a smoke trail (bubbles)
extends behind the lure, making a good recipe for marlin and
tuna.
Recently a new off shore lure has hit the market. They
are the diving minnow shaped lures which can withstand a
variety of off shore attacks. One such lure which is
relatively new and achieving success is the Bounty Hunter.
These lures are bagging Jewfish (Mulloway), yellowtail,
kingfish, yellowfin, mackerel and the like. A recent day
spent trolling on Hervey Bay with a red & white Bounty
Hunter achieved two good mackerel, not to mention a very
relaxing day.
Off shore lure fishing is getting more popular especially
when the water is calm and you want a relaxing day on the
water. Give it a go and you will be rewarded.
