MACINTYRE
RIVER
The
Macintyre river is the home of various native fish species and other
introduced species such as Redfin and Rainbow Trout.
The macintyre river begins on the western slopes of the Great Diving
Range and then travels through Paradise, Elsmore, Inverell,
Wallangra, Yetman, Boggabilla, Goondiwindi and Mungindi.
In the upper reaches of the Macintyre there are good sized
Rainbow Trout that range from 30cm in length to 2.5 kilograms. Most
of these waters are accessed through properties, and it is advisable
to get permission before entering any of these waterways.
From about Elsmore there are good sized native Murray Cod and
Golden & Silver Perch, and also Redfin. There are numerous
access points from the road outside town areas, but abundant access
points within Inverell, Wallangra, Yetman & Goondiwindi.
The Macintyre River is regularly stocked with natives. The
re-stocking program realeases between 2500 - 10 000 native
fingerlings along the Macintyre; 2500 Murray Cod and 10 000 Golden
Perch fingerlings are released in the river at Inverell alone. The
river is stocked along other points through the great efforts of
local Fishing Clubs, Hatcheries, Local Government & NSW
Fisheries.
