SEVERN
RIVER
The
Severn River is beautiful and has excellent Australian Native fish
species. Excellent Murray Cod, Golden & Silver Perch and Red Fin
are found in these waters.
The Severn begins around Dundee and flows to Pindari Dam, the
out-skirts of Emmaville, Strathbogie & Ashford, through Kwaimbal
National Park and then flows into Macintyre
River.
Excellent fishing can be found all the way along this river.
Although often surrounded by rugged gorge country, there are a few
easy access points. In and around Emmaville and Strathbogie, there
are a couple of road crossings, but before Pindari
Dam most is private property, so permission & a good 4WD is
definitely required. Below Pindari, access can be gained at Kwiambal
National Park, which is located approximately 25km from Ashford at
the junctions of the Severn and Macintyre Rivers. Here you will find
good camping areas, and other sites to see, such as the Macintyre
Falls and the Limestone Caves. Any other access is through private
property.
The Severn River is regularly stocked with natives. The
re-stocking program realeases native fingerlings; Murray Cod and
Golden Perch fingerlings are released in the river. The re-stocking
program takes place through the great efforts of local Fishing
Clubs, Hatcheries, Local Government & NSW Fisheries.
